Emma Diamond dances
Out of the Ordinary
In Out of the Ordinary, Emma Diamond portrays the real life story of 86yr old Peg Bavington, from childhood to old age. Through film, dance, music and narration, we are transported back to London in the 1920’s, brought into a family kitchen where we witness a traditional English ‘bath night’ and 14 yr old Peg working at her first job in a biscuit factory.
Through Peg’s memories we follow her fight for survival in a wartime shelter during the London Blitz, and her later life running a traditional British café. Peg’s journey is one of tenderness, joy, loyalty, love and acceptance. ‘Out of the Ordinary’ offers not only a sharp comparison between today’s modern values, but also a dynamic view of London’s history. It offers a sharp comparison between today’s modern values and the courage of a World War II survivor. Assisted by artistic advisor Lily Markiewicz, Emma combines live dance, video and interview material with original music by James Lavino, lighting by Simon Bennison and costumes by Beth Collins.
“It has clarity and wit that make it sophisticated dance.”
